This summer, NC State CALS animal science major Jasmine Alston joined a research internship at Nagoya University’s Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences

Under the guidance of Associate Professor Naoko Inoue, she studied how low estrogen levels affect kisspeptin, a hormone that regulates reproductive function in mammals. The project provided valuable insights into reproductive health and potential future therapies for menopause.

Beyond her lab work, Jasmine embraced Japanese culture, exploring historic sites, enjoying local experiences, and building friendships with peers. She reflected that the internship gave her confidence to pursue graduate-level research abroad, and she now plans to apply to Nagoya University’s graduate program after completing her degree at NC State.
