NC State Biochemistry Students Gain Research Experience at Nagoya University

This past summer, two biochemistry majors from NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Julia Yurkiv and Riley Keely, took part in a research program at Nagoya University. Their projects ranged from plant gene regulation to insect culture and microscopy, offering hands-on experience in advanced laboratories.
Beyond the lab, they explored Japanese culture by navigating Nagoya’s transportation system, visiting historic sites, and connecting with students from around the world. Both students spoke about the importance of collaboration, cross-cultural exchange, and the pride they felt in conducting research at Nagoya University.
