Nagoya University Graduate Student Studies at NC State Through JUACEP Program
December 1, 2025

Since this October, a graduate student from Nagoya University has been conducting a short-term study abroad program at NC State. We would like to introduce some comments we received about the study abroad experience and daily life.
"My name is Shotaro Tsutsui from the Graduate School of Engineering at Nagoya University. I am staying at NC State through the JUACEP program until March 2026. I am currently conducting research in the field of machine learning, with my main focus on improving the accuracy of generative AI.
At NC State, under the guidance of Professor Yengjong, I am able to conduct fulfilling research activities using the latest models, which would be difficult to experience in Japan. Although the research lab has fewer members compared to Japanese labs, this allows for closer relationships with each individual. I have been invited to events and received personal consultation, and I am spending time in a very blessed environment. Additionally, through interacting with students of diverse nationalities, I am spending my days broadening my international perspective by introducing Japanese culture and learning about other countries' cultures.
In terms of daily life, the bus system is very convenient for going anywhere, and I am spending very fulfilling days visiting various facilities and experiencing American culture firsthand. My experience at NC State is filled with new stimulation and learning both in research and daily life, making it an extremely valuable time."
