Nagoya University MIRAI GSC Program in North Carolina
A 5-day Nagoya University MIRAI GSC program aimed at science and mathematics education was held in North Carolina for high school students in the Chubu region of Japan. Out of 373 applicants, 20 high school students were selected through three selection stages for this study abroad program.
During their stay, they had lab tours, campus tours, and entrepreneurship training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University.
The students also visited the NCSSM (North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics). They were paired with local students taking Japanese language classes at NCSSM and attended their paired students' classes.
On the final day, the students gave professional posters and oral presentations on research they conducted at Nagoya University. Their presentations were of high quality, and they adeptly handled the question and answer session.
This program was an incredible opportunity for high school students to gain exposure to renowned universities, explore their interests in science and math, interact with local students, and present their research work. Programs like these can inspire and motivate young students in Japan.
We appreciate Todd Boyette, a Director at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, and everyone involved in organizing and facilitating this enriching short-term study abroad program.
The training experience is also featured on our blog (Japanese only), so be sure to check it out!
